If you’ve been on social media anywhere within these past couple of weeks, you’ve seen the colossal surge in support of all things black owned. One notable brand that has seen an enormous increase in sales is Telfar. With their bags selling out entirely within minutes, seconds even, it is truly the brand of the summer.

Teflar Clemens

Telfar Clemens, son of Liberian immigrants, established an eponymous, unisex brand, with the tagline: “Not for you—for everyone.” Inclusion has been the founding principle of his runway collections since he established his brand in 2005.

Launched by the New York label back in 2014, the chic shopping bags are constructed with vegan leather, branded with their trademark “T” logo, and sold from $150 to $257. The hype is steady and has yet to go down, especially with the way people have

been purchasing in bulk with the hopes of reselling for 3x’s the price, an egregious overcharge.

Lately, though, due to the overpricing and reselling of the bags on sites such as Depop, Telfar’s website has been closed in an attempt to “ice [the bots] out,” which, in my opinion, is quite the noble thing to do. Clemens desires for those who want the feeling of luxury without the hefty price tag attached to feel included, not left in the cold by the hefty resale prices. We have yet to know when the online site is reopening, but hopefully soon. Have you copped yours yet?
